Our team understands the debilitating patterns of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and the toll it takes on individuals and families. That’s why we continually seek ways to capitalize on our residents’ strengths, despite their degree of memory loss.

We encourage and guide residents and families to embrace special moments with their loved ones, and focus on helping them thrive. We truly allow our residents to “age in place” in a safe, loving community where their needs will be accommodated no matter how they change over time.

We execute these goals by providing professional, loving medical care to your loved one, including:

• Specialized memory care team with dedicated director
• On-site licensed nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week
• On-site physician office
• Medication and diabetes management, with injections by licensed professionals
• Extensive support programs including wheelchair assistance, two-person or three-person assists, wound care, and hospice
• Psychological and psychiatric services
• On-site rehabilitation, recovery, and fitness services through partnership with HealthPro Heritage

We also provide Pocket Programming, which allows each resident to participate in small-group activities based on their interests and abilities. These individualized service plans tailor to residents’ personal talents and favorite pastimes.

Two Secure Memory Care Neighborhoods Designed to Provide Safety and Comfort

The Kensington Place team finds joy in going above and beyond for our residents. Our Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own, and this is exemplified in our two specialized memory care neighborhoods: Connections and Haven.

Connections: For Residents in the Early to Middle Stages of Memory Loss

In our Connections neighborhood, the goal is to help residents be independently engaged in activities that give meaning and purpose to their days. This cozy, intimate neighborhood is for residents in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

As residents show increasing signs of memory loss, we continually assess their maximum cognitive ability and recall to “meet them where they are.” We focus on their strengths and comfort, providing support every step of the way.

Connections is fully secured for resident safety, with home-like living spaces that soothe and comfort. In sunny San Mateo county, we are able to provide plenty of outdoor spaces for fresh air.

Residents who are best suited for Connections may be experiencing:

• Increased anxiety
• Fear of getting lost
• Isolation or depression
• Difficulty with daily tasks
• Wandering and agitation due to sundowning

We are able to monitor your loved one’s whereabouts to ensure their safety, while still providing plenty of life enrichment activities to enhance their independence.

Haven: For Residents in the Middle to Late Stages of Memory Loss

Haven is designed for residents who are showing more advanced signs of memory loss. In a soothing and peaceful environment, resident comfort is maximized while they receive a higher level of care and assistance.

In Haven, residents are given opportunities to be involved in meaningful ways, while seeking to minimize agitation and maximize compassion.

Similarly to Connections, Haven is fully secured with wander management technology to protect residents. With an emphasis on soothing comfort, the kitchen is filled with music, laughter, and smells of home, such as freshly baked bread and cookies!

Residents best suited for Haven might be:

• In the middle to late stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia
• Having difficulty recognizing friends and family
• Having trouble organizing thoughts and performing activities of daily living
• Requiring assistance with hygiene, appearance, and toileting
• Experiencing symptoms of sundowning

The Haven neighborhood also provides adaptive design features such as painted walls and doors, motion sensors, special carpet, and memory boxes. These features aid with recognition and confusion.

The emotional and physical well-being of all our resident couples is our top priority. We ensure couples remain close, emotionally connected, and supported throughout their journey.

At Kensington Place Redwood City, we understand that every individual’s care needs are unique. That’s why we offer customized care plans tailored to each resident, ensuring couples can remain together even when their requirements differ.

Memory Care

Our memory care neighborhoods are specifically designed for residents with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Our care team’s ongoing training and expertise allow them to support various levels of care for couples while helping them maintain their connection. We understand that memory care requires a specialized approach, so we offer three levels of care based on the progression of memory loss: early, middle, and late stages.

Kensington Place provides a support system for our residents and their families. We understand that navigating the complexities of care can be overwhelming, especially when both partners have different needs.

Families can access education sessions and resources to help them understand their loved one’s condition, including dementia care and the aging process. Our team is always available to guide families through their care options, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

Maximizing Independence, Boosting Strength & Elevating Quality of Life

Kensington Place Redwood City is proud to partner with Select Rehabilitation, a regional leader in outstanding therapy services, and offer comprehensive rehab services, present wellness opportunities, and promote acute health education.

Together we provide the most current, full-service memory care solutions to physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

In partnership with Kensington Place’s own fitness, wellness, and rehab programs, specially trained Select Rehabilitation therapists are available to provide on-site skilled services to maintain the progress achieved in therapy, and provide an ideal environment for a continuum of care.

At Kensington Place Redwood City, we recognize that strengthening the body is only one part of a successful rehabilitation experience. So, we offer comprehensive therapeutic services that include not only a multi-disciplinary team of licensed professionals and state-of-the-art equipment.

Select Rehabilitation’s multidisciplinary team evaluates individual needs to develop a specially-tailored program that best fits individual needs, which may include:

• Physical Therapy helps maintain maximum mobility and restore functional ability. This form of therapy can improve mobility, balance, range of motion, and physical strength.
• Occupational Therapy is designed to help adapt to life changes and improve functional abilities. This form of therapy can provide training and guidance on self-care skills such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and grooming.
• Speech Therapy helps with all aspects of communication and memory. It can also assist with chewing and swallowing problems.
