With all that our community has to offer, it’s important for future residents to plan ahead. While we have a variety of styles from which to choose, availability is limited. We offer a wait list called The Advantage Club. By joining the Advantage Club, future residents get an opportunity to become acquainted with Channing House before moving in and to identify timing and specific styles of residences. It’s a simple process to join and the deposit is both refundable and creditable to your entrance fee.

Where Quality Care Comes to Life

Knowing the right care is right here when you need it as you age makes living an amazing, independent life much easier. Our Life Plan program brings peace of mind to you and your loved ones.

Channing House is a Life Plan Community, which means you’ll enjoy priority access to a continuum of exceptional, on-campus health services, should you need them. Our program includes residential and assisted living, as well as memory care and skilled nursing services at a significant savings from similar services in the greater community. Residents enjoy financial predictability that also enhances peace of mind.

For all residents, the nursing staff is available to respond to calls around the clock.

The Russel V. A. Lee Care Center

Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing care are provided in the welcoming atmosphere of our Lee Center, which is connected to our main tower by a skywalk. It keeps our residents engaged with their friends in Independent Living and the places, activities and programs they enjoy there.

Independent Living residents visit the Lee Center often and develop warm, close relationships with the team, which helps make a later transition to life there much more comfortable should the need ever arise.

All residents in the Lee Center enjoy amenities including:

• Large private and semi-private rooms, which residents can decorate with their own furniture and artwork as space allows
• It’s Never 2 Late Interactive Technology to provide cognitive stimulation and engagement
• Comfortable and spacious common area with a large aquarium
• An outdoor garden area for walks and visits
• Homestyle dining that can be modified for special diets as needed
• Regular activities and outings designed by our Life Enrichment Manager with resident input

Assisted Living at Channing House.

Life at Channing House can still be amazing, even when additional needs for support emerge. The goal of the licensed nurses and nursing assistants on our Assisted Living care team is to provide everything you need to remain independent and active.

This person-centered level of care is offered to residents needing additional services in either The Tower or in the Lee Center. Care and services are tailored to fit not only individual needs, but also personal likes and dislikes. For some, it’s daily tasks like laundry, scheduling medical appointments, getting mail and going to social activities. For others, it may be assistance with medication management, showering or mobility. Our caring and attentive staff is there to help.

The need may only be temporary—after an illness or surgery. For others, it may become part of a gentle, compassionate long-term transition to a more supportive setting. Best of all, you’re still close to your friends and neighbors, as well as amenities like the fitness center and library you enjoy.

Assisted living includes:

• Assistance with activities of daily living
• Medication management by nursing staff
• Medical and ancillary services arranged by nurse in collaboration with family

Skilled Nursing

One of the reasons you’re probably reading this is that you like the idea of living in a place where top-quality, short- and long-term Skilled Nursing care is available should you ever need it. Here’s another thing you can count on if that day arrives: you’ll be in a familiar place, surrounded by the familiar faces of family, friends and caregivers you know and trust.

Our Independent Living residents pay frequent visits to their friends in the Lee Center and develop relationships with the compassionate caregivers who work there. This familiarity with the environment and the people in it helps make for a smoother, easier transition if Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing care ever becomes necessary. As an Independent Living resident, you’ll no doubt have friends who move to the Lee Center to receive Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing care.

Our full Skilled Nursing level of care includes:

• Private or semi-private studio with en suite bathroom
• Nursing staff available 24 hours/day
• Assistance with activities of daily living
• Medication management by nursing staff
• Medical and ancillary services arranged by nurse in combination with family
• Visits with primary care physician on-site or by video
• Sara and Hoyer lift available for transfers

Channing House Skilled Nursing does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.

Security and Safety

Building Security

Channing House has security cameras located in the buildings and garages. The Front Desk is staffed 24/7. Exterior doors are always locked, and residents enter by buzzing the doorbell and being admitted by the Front Desk staff. Security staff are on duty from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to provide an additional feeling of safety and security for our residents and their families.

24-hour On-site Nursing Station

Nurses are available to assist in emergency situations 24-hours/day. If you dial 911 from your house phone, the Front Desk receives a notification and will dispatch a Channing House team nurse to your apartment.

Emergency Pendants

Every Channing House resident receives an emergency pendant that uses in-house wireless technology to locate you anywhere in the building and provide immediate assistance.

Safety Features

All apartments feature safety grab bars in the bathrooms, which also feature safety pull cords and motion sensors.

Parking

Keeping a car at Channing House is easy.

• Reserved Resident Parking is available in our two underground parking garages for a fee.
• Open Resident & Guest Parking is available in our large front parking lot free of charge, and street parking is readily available.

Transportation

Getting around Palo Alto is a breeze. Here are just a few of your options:

• Complimentary Scheduled Van Transportation to medical appointments within a 12-mile radius, transportation to shopping, errands (with advanced notice), and to/from local airports (for a fee)
• The Marguerite provides transportation around the Stanford University campus
• Caltrain provides easy access to San Francisco, BART and the airport
